Leadership Verses
Servant leadership as modeled by Christ — wisdom for those called to lead.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border. {gathered: Heb. were cried together} {put on...: Heb. gird himself with a girdle}
And they said, This {is} blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil. {slain: Heb. destroyed}
And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through {even} unto the king of Edom: but they could not.
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what {is} to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not {thy} riding for me, except I bid thee. {slack...: Heb. restrain not for me to ride}
So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, {yonder is} that Shunammite:
And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and {there was} a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets {were} sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, {but he was} a leper. {with: Heb. before} {honourable: or, gracious: Heb. lifted up, or, accepted in countenance} {deliverance: or, victory}
And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand {pieces} of gold, and ten changes of raiment. {with...: Heb. in his hand}
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have {therewith} sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.
