Peace Verses
The peace that surpasses all understanding — finding God's calm in life's storms.
Unto the rest of the children of Merari {were given} out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs:
And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city. {repaired: Heb. revived}
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if {ye be come} to betray me to mine enemies, seeing {there is} no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look {thereon}, and rebuke {it}. {to meet...: Heb. before them} {be knit: Heb. be one} {wrong: or, violence}
Then the spirit came upon Amasai, {who was} chief of the captains, {and he said}, Thine {are we}, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace {be} unto thee, and peace {be} to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band. {came...: Heb. clothed}
All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel {were} of one heart to make David king.
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy {endureth} for ever;
And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set {themselves} in array against the children of Ammon. {Abishai: Heb. Abshai}
And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. {Solomon: that is, Peaceable}
