So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. {trench: or, place of the carriage} {fight: or, battle array, or, place of fight}
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. {Philistine: or, Philistines} {instruments...: Heb. three stringed instruments}
For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest {it}, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?
Tell {it} not in Gath, publish {it} not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed {himself}, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. {But...: Heb. And as Absalom there was not a beautiful man in all Israel to praise greatly}
And it came to pass, that {when} David was come to the top {of the mount}, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:
I will call on the LORD, {who is} worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
