And his return {was} to Ramah; for there {was} his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, {he is} before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for {there is} a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place: {sacrifice: or, feast}
As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; {and} afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him. {this time: Heb. to day}
And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, {and} to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. {salute: Heb. bless}
Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. {made...: Heb. intreated the face}
And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone. {Ahiah: called Ahimelech}
And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that {was} in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand. {noise: or, tumult}
And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD. {the same...: Heb. that altar he began to build unto the LORD}
